The American Health Care Act (AHCA) is a bill sitting in Congress waiting for the Senate to vote on it. Under the AHCA, many areas in healthcare will get their funding cut. One of the areas affected under the bill is Medicaid, which provides funding to many school districts around the nation. This means that schools could possibly be losing funding if the Senate passes this bill. 70% of districts that receive funding use this money to pay the salaries of the health professionals (physical, occupational, speech, and behavioral therapists, for example) that work with special education students. If your child requires any services through their school, there's a very good chance that they will be unable to receive the same care in the future as they have in the past. School districts also use the funding to purchase medical equipment that your children require during the school day. If your child, or some you know has a child that benefits from therapies and other services provided by their school, please tell the senators of your state to vote against the AHCA.
