We made it through dance competition #2 this weekend. They did very well and received superior ratings for both routines. However, the competitive dance world is not fair and the girls were very unhappy they did not receive a trophy or special recognition. They simply are not used to it and can't fathom why 3 year olds get trophies for doing about two real steps with an elaborate back drop while they get nothing for elaborate steps with a simple prop or no prop at all. I hate that it discourages her and her teammates so much, but I think its good to get this out of the way now. I think they have a chance to be really great next year, they just need more experience.
This morning I had my conference with her teacher to go over her report card. I am so glad that I questioned it because as it turns out there was an actual mistake and one of the marks was wrong. So thankful that I spoke up!!! Her teacher assures me that her 2s are good, it means progressing to proficiency and that she is learning and retaining information. She said I don't need to see any 3s until the end of the year and that's the way trimesters are designed. But, the 3s I do see are because she consistently performs in the category and I shouldn't be worried. However, we both agree that she transverses and confuses letter order in words enough that she should be evaluated for dyslexia. I feel like I should be more upset by this possibility, but honestly, I know this is a problem that has solutions. It seems to plague her only when writing and taking spelling tests on more complex words with silent letters and odd vowel patterns IE -aught, ought, ight etc. Luckily, its not so frustrating that she has lost interest in reading, rather she is gaining interest in reading and is always begging for more books. ADHD and dyslexia- she must be a demi-god!!! Sorry, if you don't read Percy Jackson that will make no sense...and my nerd points are off the charts now!
Abbey's therapist thinks her anxiety is on the decline and she is doing well at managing her emotions. We just need to keep things positive and keep her talking about her feelings.
The next few weeks are crazy busy with girl scouts, MOD committee meeting, and a trip to Louisville for the last competition!j Seems so crazy. And winter finally decided to show up with snow and below freezing temps...just as the spring flowers and trees were blooming. Seems fitting!
Good, I'm glad you had that conference and feel like you got answers (and a correction) on her report card. Glad she is doing better with her anxiety too!
So glad you got answers to your question about her report card. As for dance, I agree with the girl they should have all got trophy's :)
Winter showed up today in Florida we woke up and it was in the low 40s. Way to cold for this Florida Girl I actually had to find socks and real shoes.
Good luck with your crazy busy week!
