I survived the dates, the same way I always do. There was another round of winter storms for Josie's angelversary date so of course I was busy and not able to do a lot in her memory or even think about it really. I am so glad I took off on her birthday and made a special trip to the cemetery and had lunch with a friend. It snowed a little on and off during the day, as it did the night she was born. I don't think there has been a birthday yet when I didn't see snow or even an angelversary date. The difference is that now I'm usually at work dealing with the snow so I don't have time to enjoy or appreciate it. It was so nice to stop and enjoy it on her birthday this year.
Yesterday was a big day for Abbey; 1st dance competition of the year! We are in our second year and have two more dances than last year. We added hip hop and the girls are part of the production piece which is about 28 dancers- this year it is lyrical. That comes out to jazz, tap, hip hop and lyrical all in one day. Because its a smaller competition the schedule is tight, and we had hair changes....I have never ran so much in my life! But it was all worth it when I saw her face at the end. This time, her team walked away with trophies! 1st overall for tap, as this competition puts tap in its own category for groups; 2nd overall for hip hop with a special judges award called "Young Funk" for hip hop. Production received 1st overall for their number. I was so proud of her and her teammates. We have our 4 original girls from last year plus 3 new girls joining the team. Their maturity and willingness to do better and really perform came through and they were rewarded for it! When I saw the looks on their faces I honestly lost it. They were so thrilled! I was cheering so loudly and I'm sure I could have gotten an award for most obnoxious dance mom, but I really didn't care! After my loud cheering I immediately choked up and cried a little. It was so overwhelming to see my rainbow baby achieving something I knew she has been working so hard at. After seeing the disappointed faces last year it was really heartwarming to see their happy faces! We always told them that trophies are NOT what matters in competition, its showing up, doing your best and learning from mistakes. But trophies are pretty awesome!
Sunday was a day for organizing the insanely cluttered and filthy house and then I decided we can't go to Disney without seeing the new Star Wars....I know I'm insanely late to this party but its been crazy! Abbey loved it. It was bittersweet to see Carrie Fisher on screen, knowing she's gone now. Abbey didn't realize so when she saw the dedication on screen she got really upset. She also got really emotional when BB8 broke in two pieces whereas most kids laugh hysterically...shes something else! It was the perfect way to end our weekend with some mother/daughter time.
I hope that the Monday after next competition finds us all just as happy and excited !
Way to go! Glad you all had an amazing weekend!
Yay, Abby! And hugs to you as you remember your sweet girl.
