Haley Joy

I have to say I agree with Chisty, life does not always go as planned. Haley had a very unexpected quick arrival in to this world. At just 29 weeks and 5 days I found myself in the hospital about to have an emergency c-section hoping to save mine and my unborn baby's life. Haley was born at 10:04 pm and weighed only 2 lbs 9.6 oz! She was 15 in. Our time in the NICU was exhausting. We also have a 3 year old who was 2 1/2 at the time. We hated going back and forth all the time, but we had to be with both kids and they couldn't be together. The nurses were always very understanding and did everything they could to make the short times we were able to be with Haley the best they could be. We had our share of ups and downs but after only 5 weeks we got the news we were waiting for. Haley came home on Oct 30. It was one of the best days ever. She was only 4 lbs 5 oz but she was such a fighter. It was very scary to bring her home that day. I felt so nervous and didn't sleep well for a while. Haley continues to grow and meet milestones. She is a happy 5 1/2 month old ( 3 months adjusted ). Haley weighs 11 lbs 7 oz now and is doing great. We struggled with breastfeeding for so long and on christmas eve Haley finally got it! She no longer gets any supplements and only gets occasional bottles so I can get out of the house! If anyone has problems breastfeeding and wants help just ask! I tried everything so I have plenty of ideas for you and I'd be glad to help if I can. I'm here if anyone ever wants to talk. I was blessed to get to know Christy in the NICU and her along with several of the nurses really helped us get through that experience and made it into a time in my life I will never forget. I learned a lot during that time and grew a lot. Make the best of the time you have there because even though they are small they still grow up so fast! Julie

  • HEY!!!
Tammy! I'm so glad to hear from you. I was thinking about you guys the other day and wondering how you were doing. Send me pictures of Cooper please! I'm dying to see him. my email is jcruz920@yahoo.com

Haley is not on cereal just yet. We're going to start after her next appointment when she'll be 6 months old actual age. She's doing really well but her weight gain has slowed down quite a bit which has me a little nervous. We'll see what the doctor says. She's had a cold for 3 weeks and is going to the doctor on thursday just to get checked out. I've been checking her lungs myself and they sound ok so I'm pretty sure it's just a cold but I would feel better having the doctor at least look at her. Haley seems to have mild reflux also. Not to the point where she needs a special diet though. I'm sorry to hear that Cooper wasn't able to breastfeed. I'm sure that was really hard. I had to go and see the lactation consultant for help in december to get Haley to make the switch and they were so helpful.

It's so great to hear from you. Keep in touch and let me know how Cooper's doing.

Hi, it's Tammy, Cooper's mom...so good to hear Haley is doing so well...awesome she finally took to breastfeeding! Unfortunately, Cooper never did...I pumped for the first 3 months and Cooper suffered from really bad reflux...the Dr. thought he was allergic to my breastmilk, so I gave in and stopped pumping and put him on a special formula...it was very difficult for me to do and I was so sad, but I think it was for the best...now he is on prevacid and alimentum formula and gaining weight like a champ...he weighs 15 lb!!! lol We are looking to introduce cereal to him soon...the GI Dr. recommended holding him off b/c of his prematurity...is Haley on it yet?

  • Haley is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your story and pictures. I am happy to hear that she is doing well today!
