Tristyn turned 5 on Thursday!!! It was the same weekday just as it was five years ago. I remember it all. I am so thankful that we had our weekly NSTs and ultrasounds scheduled. The ultrasound saved him and we delivered at 34 weeks. Had we gone a day longer, had we not had that appointment, well, we know what happens when you aren't being monitored. Like all babies, he's a miracle, and we're so proud of him. He's really into Nintendo, so I tried to do something that he would recognize. Really, I think he would have been just fine with a tub of chocolate icing. For the record, I wasn't drunk when I made the cake. I was trying to use candy that he liked and even that one is hard. He liked it and knows all about blowing out the candle. A few days before his big day, he'd say, "I'm going to be 5" and "I get presents." For us, that's huge! This year, we bought him a lot of board games (good OT ones). He is able to focus for long periods of time IF it's something he's interested in. He seems pleased. I couldn't get him to look up for a picture, but he sure did have fun opening his presents. I wrapped them really tight, so he'd have to work a bit harder. That's probably awful, but by Monday he's got to poke a straw into his Capri Sun on his own and I'm trying anything and everything to build his fine finger dexterity!
