Share Your Story

It's been really difficult these last few days. I got a call last week from my parents telling me that she wasn't doing well. She had congestive heart failure, had a pacemaker put in over a year ago, and was now having trouble breathing. She was refusing to even lay down. Hospice was called to take over her care and one of her last requests was to see her grandsons. I felt awkward as I didn't want to scare the kids, but hoped that they would get through it alright. We visited one final time this past Sunday. She was still very much with it, talking, funny, and recounting memories from the past as most older folks do. We didn't stay too long, but I was told that she really appreciated the visit. I got a call this morning around 6:38 a.m. from my mother. Gigi passed away sometime around 4:30ish this morning. It's weird to think that someone you just saw days ago is now gone. It sounds as though she went peacefully in her sleep which is what we were hoping for if it came to that. She was ready. My hope is that she has reunited with her husband and her son. And maybe, just maybe she's meeting her great grandson for the fist time and holding him for me until I get there. It's a nice thought anyway. My mom told me that she dressed her in this pretty butterfly robe and put some lipstick on her before services were called. Gigi was one of those ladies who always had to have her make-up on and her hair a certain way. She was concerned that the boys wouldn't remember her, but they will. I'm so glad that they got a chance to know her. I've got pictures and to my History teacher up above who said that the Family History Research Project would become a treasure, you were so right! I hope you're all having such conversation up there about the Depression and the dust bowls in New Mexico:) And I'm hosting Easter Sunday. Whew . . .
