I have been ALONE for 10 days with 2 kiddos while my husband led a group of high schoolers to France and Spain. He just called to tell me that he has safely landed. I have Supershuttle picking him up at the airport to bring him home. No way was I going to get the kids out of bed. They need to rest and mommy needs some "me time." I thought I'd get to do so many things while he was gone and after the kids went to bed. Total exhaustion especially on several days where there were no naps for either of them. Urgh. I think I just took another year off of my life! We have spent the past 10 days playing in the pool, going to fabulous places such as the grocery store, drive thru bank and post office. My oldest was so tired one afternoon that while I cruised through the post office line, he was crying saying that he wanted to go inside and play a game. It was a total meltdown in the backseat. I told him that this isn't Chuck E. Cheese's - there are no games. Maybe he was remembering the last time he went there or saw a commercial for it on PBS. Who knows? Nothing like a little mojito on the couch after the kids crash. Do I even bother telling my husband about the hours I spent dressing our youngest who constantly took off his pull-ups and clothes? And coloring on the carpet when mommy slipped away to wash her face and brush her teeth. Let's not forget the countless times I have wiped down that kitchen table. The kids are starting to get better about helping me put away toys. My oldest did help me put away the safe dishes from the dishwasher. That was a first! I urged my husband to take this trip. He has been working SO hard this past year with such a heavy plate. He works two jobs and coaches a sport. We both wish that I could have gone too, but we have no one whom we can trust to watch the kids. I just feel like I need a break. I remember so many people offering to watch the kids after our loss. You know, I didn't want to go to a movie or sit at a cafe in the days and weeks after we lost our son. You're hurting, you're bleeding, you have milk coming in and there's no baby - it's awful. I remember having to plan my afternoon stuff around my shot schedule. I had to be home so that my husband could give me my Lovenox injection. So while it was nice of people to offer, it would've been nicer to have those offers a few months later after the shock had worn off. I am excited to hear about it all. I can't wait to see the pictures! I missed my husband, but we're okay apart. We did the long-distance thing in the beginning of our relationship and I've been a SAHM now for a year and a half. I've got this job down. If only we could get paid for doing the daily. No calls from CA, nothing from another local district I recently applied to, and nothing from my current district. I've started to look at part-time classified jobs. A lady on one of my care sites asked if I would be interested in watching her 10-month old twins. No, not really. If I'm home next year, it would be great to find another 3 year old so my son could have a playmate. Then it wouldn't really feel like work. I'll keep you posted. If anyone is wondering, my hubby went for free. With these tour companies, you get so many enrolled and the teacher goes for FREE. No way could we afford a trip abroad right now. EF Tours anyone?
