My mother had e-mailed that my grandmother, Gigi, has been moved to an assisted living facilty which is just 2 miles from my parents' home. I am relieved, but know that it must be so hard for her. Gigi was self-sufficient up until a few weeks ago and now relies on someone to help her to the restroom and pretty much everywhere. She is in good spirits though. At meals, they are seated 4 to a table, so it forces interaction. When my mother checked in on her, Gigi was chatting away with the other ladies. She also has a roomate, so that's good. She's not ALONE. I made a Halloween card for her and put her great grandsons' pictures in it. Very scrapbooking-esque of me. I still don't know when I'll have the courage to finish Naethyn's album, but I want to. My mom goes and visits everyday and I plan on visiting Gigi soon. We've all been sick and I feel like I'll be spending the next few weekends in some line at some random pharmacy to try and get the H1N1 vaccine for my kids. Oh, I don't know if anyone does this, but sometimes I forward my entries to my friends, so they can know how I'm feeling, etc. I forwarded one of my entries to my parents and all I got back was a one liner that read, "Thanks for sharing." All I know, is if God forbid one of my sons or friends ever goes through something like this, I'm going to be there for them. Whatever it takes: hugs, flowers, dinners, phone calls, drop ins, whatever. Even after all this time, people still want to hear that you care. Crap! I have to mention this. The high school that I teach at is located by a funeral chapel, the one whose services we used for the transportation and cremation. Anyway, right across the street from that is a little family-owned farm and they sell roses, hay, and of course pumpkins right now. It's going to be a year . . . a year ago this week, even though I was tired, I took my 2 sons (2 year old son and 14-month old at the time) to go and pick a pumpkin afterschool. The owner was so nice, he gave us a little pumpkin for free for my youngest. Can't believe it! Here are some Halloween pics from last year.
