To celebrate Naethyn's angelversary and to treat the boys to something super fun, we escaped to Legoland a few weeks ago! We've visited a few times over the years and had annual passes at one point, but we had never stayed at the Legoland Hotel! And the best part of all . . . it was Star Wars Weekend! Oh yes! Happy husband was very excited! I had found a package deal the month prior and good thing because the hotel was booked for weeks out. We made great time on the road, checked into the hotel, and went straight to the park. Spent a few hours there and really just a couple of rides and lots of Lego Minifigure trading (mom too). Went out to dinner, with one last parking spot left as if it were there for us, and finished dinner just as the pre-wedding party of 14 was seated near our section. Got our bags and went to our pirate themed room. WOW! The room was really cute with Lego models even in the bathroom too! Very cool! Had breakfast the next morning and on our way to check out of the hotel, in the elevator with us was another mom and her son. Her son was about to get out at the wrong floor when she yelled, "Nathan, this isn't the lobby!" Oh yes, that would happen to me. At least it was after his angelversary. My husband and I just looked at each other. I might have been saying the same thing to him had things been different.
We stopped by Guest Services for a fast pass with doctor's note for T, and off to early entry for some rides with no wait. Got "the look" as folks in line tried to probably guess why these people needed a fast pass. That doesn't bother me so much anymore. There were other families using fast passes and for the same diagnosis too as we overheard conversations and chatted with other families in line. I sometimes wait for T to do his typical behaviors and then the onlookers seem to relax a bit more. Oy! The park was definitely more enjoyable with the fast pass and we only used it when the lines were really long. There are a couple of rides with short lines that the boys did numerous times and they loved playing on the play ground in the Kingdom part of the park.
The unveiling of the new Lego Death Star happened just two days before. Being that it was a Star Wars Weekend, there were people in costumes and lots of activities for kids and families. D and T waited in line for 15 minutes to do a building contest. Huge for T! We were given a theme and 5 minutes to build something from that movie. Oddly enough, we were in group 6, but at table 5 when it was our turn in Round 2. Our theme was to build something from Episode 4. Well, the winner did something cute, but it wasn't from Episode 4. Now, I'm not sure if I'm proud that I actually know that or what?! I think that's what happens sometimes when your spouse is into a particular something, you sort of adopt it by habit. I'll never forget playing Star Wars Trivial Pursuit and my husband and a friend were guessing which question on the card I wouldn't know for the win. I was read the question and drew a blank when immediately I said, "That's right R-2. We're going to the Dagobah system!" He could not believe it! Me either . . .
We had a really nice time that Saturday and then made our way to our friends' house for some much needed respite. It's like a second home as it's cozy and familiar to the boys. Funny too because their backyard leads up to the activity field of the elementary school where I attended Kinder! Crazy! Had dinner with them and caught up on things. The place where the boys ride also has some wines too. We brought our wino friends a bottle of "Chardonneigh." Spent the night there, back to the Legoland Hotel to collect a blanket we had left. It hadn't been processed yet, so we couldn't get it until Sunday morning. Made it back home in the afternoon. With driving to get the blanket, it seemed like we were delaying the drive. We stopped off at a few more favorite spots and debated spending a few hours at the beach. We didn't want to be driving back at night though, so we headed home. It was truly a nice weekend away and we ALL needed it. There is something about a change of scenery when you're trying to get through painful memories, something about the ocean too. I have to remember to save up again to be able to do that. It was definitely time and money well spent.
Our walk is upon us and I am trying to finalize a new shirt. The boys know why we went to Legoland. They know it was their little brother's birthday. Urgh . . . held back a lot of tears as I didn't want to be sad for them. They deserve to see a happy mom every now and again, right? Made it through March, and exhale . . .
So excited to be there!

that looks so much fun! I cant wait til our son is old enough to bring to do all the fun things :)
Wow! I think the Haddocks need to make a trip to LEGO land. It looks like so much fun.
I am so glad that you were all able to have some great family time as you remember your sweet Naethyn. I always struggle for ideas on what we should or should not do. I think I might learn from example and plan a nice weekend away.
I can't wait to see your shirts for this year. We are working on ours too. I hope everyone shows them off at SU this year. :)

That trip sounds totally awesome! There aren't words for how I wish Naethyn could have been with you in more than spirit. You deserve to be happy mom as much as they deserve to see her. I'm glad that you were able to have a wonderful time with your family. I hope you had more smiles than tears.
Shirts. Ugh. They are the bane of my walk. I can never afford to get what I really want, so I have to be creative! Can't wait to see yours :)

Sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves. The boys are growing up fast. Happy that your family was able to do something fun as you remembered Naethyn. I, too, am glad March is over.
love, erin
Okay my husband will be so jealous of you that not only you were at Legoland but it was Star Wars weekend. That is on our list of things to do go to Lego land one day. I have two lego obsessed people in my house! Looks like you had fun and a nice way to spend the angelversary. hugs. Nicki
