The other day, I returned home from having been out and about. Lucia was excited to see me, and ran up to me with her arms open, shouting "Mommy! Mommy, you're home". Such a heart warming reception :)
I bent down to pick her up, and hugged her tight. As I hugged her, I said to her, "I'm so glad to be home, I missed you. I love my home so much. I love it because of the people who live in this home - you, Daddy, Benni, and Sammi (ok - ok - Benni and Sammi are our beagle dogs, and not technically "people" - but they might as well be :))...
And then she said, without skipping a beat, "and Marco."
To which I replied, "Oh yes, my darling, and our special angel Marco, who watches over us, he's always with us."
I honestly was taken aback by this - in a good way, of course. We don't talk a whole lot about Marco. I have a few pictures of him in Bruno's and my bedroom. And every night I say to Lucia after our nighttime prayers, "God bless you, and God bless our angel Marco" - so she hears his name at least once every day. Sometimes he'll come up, and I'll tell her that he's always in our heart and that he watches over us. But that's really the extent of it. So, imagine my surprise when she thought so quickly to add him to the list of dwellers in our home.
Marco, you are indeed present in this home, my love. You are here with us, and your sister knows it. I know that she doesn't understand even a small fraction of your story - but she knows that you watch over us, and that you are with us some how, and that is truly amazing.
What an amazing little girl you have there, Libby. I'm sure it warmed your heart completely that she thought so quickly to add her big brother. I know it warms my heart when Kaelin randomly starts talking about Ethan and Casey.
Our little ones are perceptive, and they know and understand more than we think. You are doing a great job being a mom to both of your children.
Hugs and love,
erin
There is so much sweetness in this post. That Lucia is just so precious and her love knows no bounds. It is obvious that little girl has known nothing but love.

So sweet of Lucia:) She just knows:) I love that about these little beings. They can't understand all of the medical stuff, the fragility of it all, but they know our hearts so very well. Hugs, hugs, and more hugs! What a sweetie!

How incredibly sweet Libby. I experience moments like this with my younger two girls as well. Of course we mention Arianna and we do have photos in our home but it never ceases to amaze me the connection they still feel to her. I am so glad that Lucia has a special bond with Marco as well. I firmly believe that he still very much resides in your home. The love you all have for him ensures it.
Hugs,
Jami
