RSV - We need your prayers

Hello All, I am not sure where to post this and I am sure the moderators will move it the appropriate folder if this one is not it. I wanted to let you all know that our babies can still catch RSV even after they reach the age of 2. My daughter was admitted to Children's 12/23 and tested positive for RSV. She was intubated and paralyzed on 12/24 so her lungs can rest. She is currently receiving oxygen as well as nitric oxide. We have been able to wean her vent settings and she is now on 38% oxygen at a rate of 12bpm. She is holding her sats at about 95% and breathing roughly between 12 to 18 bpm over the machine. The paralitic was stopped yesterday, so we have some movement, but she is still heavily sedated. Because she has BPD or CLD whichever you want to call it, the virus just went on the attack. Her lungs look better today than they did 5 days ago, however, they still are pretty white. Please, please parents protect your children. RSV is horrible this year and for someone to catch it with already challenged lungs is just about the scaries thing you can witness. PICU has brought back all the sounds, smells, fears, anger, and exhaustion the NICU did. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think I woudl bare witness to my chold being on life support again for the second time in her life. The only solace I have is that, once again she will have no memory (prayerfully) of this. It is torture watching from the sideline not being able to do anything but the little things you are allowed to do. Please say a prayer for my little Amazing Grace who is once again fighting for her life. God Bless, Yolonda

  • Yolonda,

I am so sorry your precious little girl is in the PICU. Having a baby readmitted to intensive care is a very frightening thing. Glad to here she's feeling better. Hopefully she'll be well enough to soon go home.

Thanks for reminding us how serious RSV can be for our little ones.
