Mobility A.D.s

I am attaching a few things that have really, really helped Katie in our attempt to get her to bear weight and eventually walk. 1) The Pony Walker- this was the first a.d. that we were able to get. It has really helped. Katie doesn't like it much, but it definately has been beneficial! 2) The Stander- Helped get Katie used to be in the standing position and was able to achieve the goal of her being comfortable with wieght on her legs. 3) A Rody Horse- this really helps strengthen leg muscles and balance issues. 4) Katie's AFO's- I do just love these things, aside from fighting her to get them on! They have really readjusted her feet positioning, while also allowing Katie to feel comfortable bearing weight. 5) I also wanted to mention that Katie has Hip Helpers, as well- very inexpensive and they help place the hips in the correct position that will lead to more effective crawling. Katie wears them all the time under her clothing. Please let me know if you guys have any other suggestions for getting my baby girl to start running!!! :ooh:

    Dear Allegra,

You know, I'm not sure that I have seen anyone here with a child with a prosthetic limb. I am sorry I can't provide any additional help there. However, I DO understand how hard it is for a mom to watch while all the other kids that are your child's age are doing fun things while your child simply can not- based on their anatomy or based on simply the lack of skills to do so. It is not a bad thing to admit that your heart just simply breaks for your child. Everyone wants their child to 'fit in' and situations such as this do not really foster that aspiration becoming feasible. Hang in there. Make sure to give your son a lot of support during these seasons. Best of luck to you and your son.

    Love, Kelly

I love that! I tried to get a similar one for Luke, but was unable to get assistance from medical insurance. I love that you can put the manual wheels on when you want! :ooh:

  • Hey guys I just wanted to post a picture of Katie's new ride! The initial purpose for this equipment is the stroller (which is mostly what is pictured), yet in the future if Katie needs it, we can add wheelchair wheels and it can be used as a wheelchair. It folds up so tightly and easily too. It is fairly light weight and also has many attachments (i.e. a clear tray table, some additional straps, a head/ neck stability cushion, some leg holders, etc.).

    The brand is: Convaid Cruiser.
  • She will figure that out on her own. Nia is quite amazing in how she works to be able to do something. Two feet jumping up was her last big accomplishment. She tried for a long time until she could do it. She insists that she be able to walk down a curb on her own without help. It took until she was 4. Actually I noticed a lot of her 'new moves' came at age 4. Nia's therapist says that she thinks around age 7 or 8 she will have more body awareness and she will be able to find ways to compensate for things she has trouble with now. I hope!
