10 Week old w/ RSV

Laura is a 10 week old preemie (7 weeks corrected) who didn't qualify for synagis. She has been hospitalized for the past 6 days. She is getting breathing treatments, steriods, and broad spectrum antibiotics. Yesterday she also got pnemonia. She is not worse....but not really improved enough to say she is better. She isn't eating well and needs IV fluids but keeps blowing her tiny veins. How long do they usually stay hospitalized? What is usually the treatment? How long until all better?

  • I am so sorry to hear what you are going through right now. My son was a preemie, but they said that he was too big for the Synagis shots. He too ended up with RSV. We were lucky to be able to stay home with a nebulizer.
I hope that things get better for you, we were told 2 weeks, but every baby is different.

Keep us updated on her progress.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that Laura is so sick. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I don't have the answers to your questions, but I wanted to let you know that I will be praying for sweet Laura and for the rest of the family as well.
