Baby's Itchy Ears!

I have a 22 month old daughter who has itchy ears *outside of her ear! She scratches to the point that they get all red and sometimes her fingernails make them bleed! Has anyone ever had this before and what can you do about it? I'm open to natural alternatives. In the mean time, i put Vaseline , to make them itch less-------- but maybe not for long enough. Help!

Sounds crazy but are you sure that her ears are itchy? I child pulling or digging at their ears can be a symptom of an ear infection. If you know that she doesn't have an infection I too would guess eczema. Two of my girls have it and I do like the aveeno eczema lotion. It works really well. We also use cetaphil restaderm wash and lotion also. I hope she feels better soon.

    Hi,

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. My first guess would also be eczema, my son has this.

We put the baby Aveeno lotion on his skin, and that really helps. I suggest asking the pediatrician for his or her advice.

    Good luck!

  • Hi.  I haven't dealt with this specifically, but my little guy did have eczema and I'm wondering if that could be causing her to be itchy.  I would definitley ask the pediatrician and see if they have any recommendations.  We ultimately ended up at a pediatric dermatologist with prescription cream, and he has now mostly grown out of it to the point where we can manage it with over the counter lotions.  I hope you are able to figure out a helpful treatment soon.
